The first wines were made in an underground cellar, until in 1968 they decided to set up their own winery in a beautiful old 19th-century town-house situated in the city of Haro. The Bodegas Muga outstanding feature is that it always uses the finest materials, combining tradition with the latest advances in winemaking so as always to give its wines the very best quality without losing authenticity. Indeed, it is the only wine cellar in Spain which employs its own master cooper and coopers, who make all the vats for the cellar as well as the oak casks. The winery remains true to traditional winemaking methods such as racking the casks by gravity and fining the wine with fresh egg whites. Bodegas Muga has succeeded in combining the purest family tradition with an updated vision of the future which has allowed them to preserve their own personality and character.

Expert Notes
Robert Parker: 96
The most unusual and backward of the wines in the Muga portfolio is the Graciano-rich blend 2016 Aro, a blend of Tempranillo with 30% Graciano that is only produced when Graciano ripens properly. The grapes comes from a single vineyard that they now know quite well. 2016 was a good year for the grape, and the wine has notes of violets and dark chocolate, quite hedonistic and showy. The Graciano really lifts the Tempranillo, and the blend comes through as high pitched and vibrant, which is also the general style of the year from what I've seen. The oak is still present on the nose, and the palate shows quite tannic; the wine is going to benefit from a couple of years in bottle. If you like toasty, showy and hedonistic reds you could drink it now, but if you prefer more subtleness, you should wait for it. 5,200 bottles were filled in February 2019.

["96 RP","Country_Spain","Finding_Inventory","NO_PROMO","Rating_96","Region_Rioja","Size_750 ml.","Special_New","Subregion_ Rioja Alta","Type_Cult","Type_Red","Varietal_Graciano","Varietal_Tempranillo","Vintage_2016","Winery_Bodegas Muga
"option1":"Default Title","option2":null,"option3":null
["Default Title
["//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1997/1819/products/4_d8b8add1-242c-4b68-828a-a82adbb268f8.jpg?v=1619192622
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1997/1819/products/4_d8b8add1-242c-4b68-828a-a82adbb268f8.jpg?v=1619192622
Title
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1997/1819/products/4_d8b8add1-242c-4b68-828a-a82adbb268f8.jpg?v=1619192622
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1997/1819/products/4_d8b8add1-242c-4b68-828a-a82adbb268f8.jpg?v=1619192622

Spain - Rioja - Rioja Alta

Tempranillo - Graciano

Red - Vintage: 2016 - Size: 750 ml.

Bodegas Muga is a family firm founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño.
