Port wines are perhaps the most famous and collected sweet wines in the world. This region was the first demarcated wine region in the world in 1756. Fortified Port wines have historically been made there, but for a few years it has also been internationally recognized for its still wines marketed under the DOC Douro.
Port wine is a fortified or generous wine, that is, a wine to which alcohol is added during its production process, giving it texture and increasing its alcohol content, while giving more sweetness and more robust flavors, allowing it to have extraordinary longevity.
There are several kinds of Port wines, which share the same production system, but differ mainly in the way of aging, as also happens with Sherry wines, the main ones being: Ruby, Tawny, Colheita, LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) and Vintage.
