Remírez de Ganuza is an estate in Rioja particularly known for its flagship Reserva and Gran Reserva wines. The estate was set up by former wine broker Fernándo Remírez de Ganuza in 1989, when he acquired top-quality plots in Rioja Alavesa. Holdings in six different locations total more than 80 hectares (200 acres), planted to Tempranillo, Viura and Malvasia. The winery is located in Salmaniego, Álava, in modern concrete buildings covered with old brickwork to merge with their surroundings. The range-topping Remírez de Ganuza wines are sourced from vines averaging 60 years old, and may be produced as a Reserva and also as a Gran Reserva in the best years. Fincas de Ganuza is another Reserva, this time made from vines aged 25-40 years old and fermented in stainless steel.
