5 Best Wines from Ribera del Duero in 2019
Ribera del Duero is located on the Duero River banks in the north-central area of Spain. The land there is actually one of the temperature extremes. You may freeze on exceptionally cold nights or boil on blistering hot days. Know how to warm up, or cool down, if you schedule a visit.

In this particular area, the locals spend their time making powerfully dark red wines that many commonly drink along with another great specialty of this Spanish wine region: roast lamb. Even so, you don’t need to eat some baby sheep to enjoy these great bottles.

The Five Best Wines in 2019

We painstakingly narrowed the five best wines from Ribera del Duero in 2019. See our selections below:

1. Vega Sicilia 2006: Unico

Numerous renowned wine connoisseurs will tell you that they consider Vega Sicilia to be the greatest Spanish red wine of all! Enjoy a Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo blend from the Unico region of Ribera del Duero.

2. Dominio del Aguila 2015: Canta la Perdiz

A family winery located in La Aguilera, Dominio Del Águila is a tiny village in Ribera Del Duero. Isabel Rodero and Jorge Monzón have run the winery since 2010 when they decided to join their winemaking efforts for the purpose of making their dream come true. Their vintages have not disappointed.

3. Aalto Bodegas y Viñedos 2017 - Aalto P.S.: Ribera del Duero

This wine was made by Mariano Garcia, the Vega Sicília winemaker for more than 30 years. Some wine connoisseurs even call the blend "God in a Bottle!" With this brew, you can savor the perfect balance between acidity, alcohol, and tannins. Enjoy drinking such wine all the way until 2040 with tastes of caramel, vanilla, tobacco, and other amazing flavors.

4. Bodegas Mauro 2000: Vendimia Seleccionada Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon

This offering by Castilla y Leon arrives from Bodegas Mauro, a winery established back in 1978. The 150 acres of vineyards actually produce approximately 240,000 bottles every year.

These particular wines are a blend of some Grenache but mainly contain Tinta de Toro. This prestige cuvée is produced only in outstanding vintages. All of the Mauro wines, however, are found to generally be earning high ratings in the 90s from the majority of wine reviewers.

5. Bodegas Valduero Gran Reserva 2009: Ribera Del Duero

Our last of the five best Spanish Ribera Del Duero Reds, this one is made from 70-year old vines and spent four years in oak barrels. The wine has a complex nose of balsamic, dark berries and cherries, licorice, black tea, and tobacco. Enjoy a quite full-bodied complexion, and not too oaky with a long-lasting aftertaste.
