Priorat or Priorato, is a D.O. located in Tarragona, province of Spain, south of Barcelona. Recognized as the highest quality, together with La Rioja, they are the only areas that have obtained the best qualification as D.O. This speaks of the great quality of the wines from this area.
The secret behind the excellent wines of the area is the excellent terroir. In the last decades, the vine growers of the Priorat area have modernized the wine-making process, and the quality of the wines has increased considerably. The Priorat area is famous for its intense red wines due to the Carignan. With personality: Carignan and Garnatxa or Garnacha. These grapes are often paired with local Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
They also produce excellent white wines with white grapes, such as the White Garnacha, Macabeo, Pedro Ximénez, Chenin and Viogner.
