Pinotage began as a 1925 crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsaut made by a professor in Stellenbosch, and decades passed before anyone bottled it commercially under its own name. It is still grown almost nowhere outside South Africa. Beaumont farms in the Cape South Coast and gives the variety a solo 2022 bottling.
