On Madeira an age statement is an average, not a vintage: a 10 year old is a blend built to that profile, which is why the same label also reads NV. The island matures its wines warm, in heated tanks or under the roof of a lodge, a practice found nowhere else. Verdelho is one of the four noble varieties and sits toward the drier end of the range, between Sercial and Bual.
