Château Montrose was already ranked a Saint-Estèphe second growth in the 1855 classification when the Bouygues brothers bought it in 2006 and rebuilt the winery around it. The 1998 predates all of that: a Bordeaux blend made under the property's earlier ownership, nearly three decades back.
