Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Ateo shows sweet black cherry and cassis, and has a plummy texture. Tobacco, vanilla, and baking spices intermingle on the nose and palate.

Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon can be planted in Montalcino, but neither may enter Brunello or Rosso, so blends of the two leave the commune under separate denominations. Ateo is exactly that case: a 2021 red from Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona built on the two international varieties, its name the Italian word for atheist.
