DESCRIPTION

Subregion: Graacher Himmelreich

Dr. Loosen's Graacher Himmelreich GG Alte Reben is a dry Grosses Gewächs Riesling from one of Mosel's most revered sloped sites. Crafted from old vines in the Graacher Himmelreich, this bottling balances concentrated orchard and stone-fruit intensity with razor-sharp acidity and pronounced slate-driven minerality. On release it offers ripe lemon and apricot notes, a lush mid-palate presence and a crystalline, saline finish that speaks to the site’s blue-slate soils. The wine is made in a precise, focused style: powerful yet restrained, with a muscular structure that promises impressive longevity. It’s a classic expression of Mosel GG—fresh and bright, but with the density and depth that allow the wine to develop complexity for decades. Serve chilled with firm-flavored seafood (scallops, white fish), pork, tangy goat cheeses, or bolder, spiced Asian dishes. For collectors the Graacher Himmelreich GG Alte Reben is an excellent candidate for cellaring, offering both immediate pleasure and the potential to evolve in bottle as its mineral core and crystalline acidity integrate with layered stone-fruit and savory secondary notes. This is a boutique, site-driven Riesling for those who prize terroir, tension, and ageworthiness in classic German white wine.

Expert Notes

Robert Parker: 93-95

precise and intense, well concentrated and ripe but fresh and provided with lemon notes. Lush and elegant on the palate, this is a rich and powerful, well structured, crystalline, persistently salty, complex and powerful Riesling with great tension.

James Suckling: 95-96

So much ripeness and depth, the generous, firmly structured body married to ripe apricot fruit. Very exciting and powerful, but retains the classic Mosel brightness and shows great mineral drive at the dramatic finish.
