Aromas of plum, blackcurrant and orange peel introduce Santenay 1er Cru Clos Faubard 2018, a fleshy but precise wine, medium bodied, lively and open, with powdery tannins and a fragrant finish.

Santenay closes the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, the last commune before the Côte d'Or hands over to the Côte Chalonnaise. Clos Faubard is a premier cru climat on the slope there, and Lucien Muzard bottles this 2022 under that climat name. In Burgundy the premier cru rank belongs to the vineyard itself, not to the producer working it.
