Washington keeps its grapes and its cellars on opposite sides of the Cascade Range: nearly every vineyard lies inland to the east, while a dense cluster of wineries operates in the suburbs north of Seattle, with fruit trucked over the passes at harvest. Monkey Wrench, from the 2022 vintage, is a red blend with no varietal statement on the label, the route producers take when no single grape reaches the 75% US minimum.
