Vayots Dzor holds the Areni-1 cave, where archaeologists uncovered a clay treading floor and fermentation vessels dated to roughly six thousand years ago, the oldest winemaking installation known anywhere. The red grape sharing the village's name, Areni Noir, is still what the region plants, and NOA's 2019 is made from it. Vineyards in this part of Armenia sit well above 1,000 metres.
