Before Cabernet and Shiraz reshaped Australian plantings from the 1960s onward, Grenache carried much of the country's red production, a good deal of it destined for fortified wine. Paxton's 2022 Grenache comes from organically certified vineyards in South Australia. The variety copes with dry-grown, unirrigated sites, which is part of why the oldest plantings were never pulled out.
