From an extremely steep hillside with southwesterly-exposed terraces and meagre soils of Gföhler gneiss, this is a mineral-driven and pure Riesling, one that epitomises authenticity & identity.
Dry stone walls hold up the terraces on the Wachau's steepest slopes, and no machine can work them, so picking and hauling stay manual. Rudi Pichler's Riesling from Achleiten in 2020 is labeled Smaragd, the ripeness tier the valley's growers use among themselves.
