Sandhi's 2021 Patterson is a Chardonnay sold under a vineyard name, and in the United States that phrase is regulated: at least 95 percent of what is in the bottle must come from the site printed on the label, and the vineyard has to sit inside a named appellation. A grower's block becomes the legal unit of origin, a much narrower line than any county boundary.
